Kdice not K-fed is salvation
So I was sitting there getting frustrated with web-based multiplayer gaming universe the other day… going from one space based, damn hard to understand, strat game to the next (come on Google hook a brother up on “web-based strategy game” search). Then I came across kdice.com… at first glance I thought “Oh its a risk/dice wars knock off…I’ll spend a few mins playing and check it out” (this is the same mistake Ensign Jones makes beaming down to the hostile planet in Star Trek or the kids running off to have sex in the woods at Camp Crystal Lake…look it up). Anyway… four hours later, and more international disputes than I care to mention, I was actually able to gain some perspective on the up’s and down’s of kdice.
(Here is a map from my perspective… about to get my ass kicked in )
The game is addictive… in that lunch time/3AM I have nothing better to do and should be sleeping… way. Basically the game play is about as complex as risk, meaning you find a corner that doesn’t touch too many others, then defend and expand from it. Your map placement is generated randomly so alot can fall on that.
However the games initial simplicity is shored up by a truly vicious ranking system.
(Here’s mine…. challenge me I dare you)
This encourages surrender, truces and all sorts of illegitimate activities, like back stabbing, truce breaking, power teaming… basically all the nasty but tasty bits (kinda like hotdogs) and this is really where the game gets interesting. By and by kdice.com met and exceeded my expectations for a web-based multiplayer game.
I hope to bring Ryan, the games developer, into the Pool.
